My first dental office job didn’t offer any telephone training. In all fairness, my new employer may not have thought I needed any training. I had been working on the phones in a private alcohol & drug rehabilitation center as an admissions counselor.

He told me that one of his long time patients had voiced a complaint about my conversation with her. The patient had told the dentist that she had never been spoken to in the manner I had spoken to her and that I was extremely rude.
I didn’t think I had been rude. In my mind, I had only been direct. He didn’t take my side!
The patient had called asking for an appointment and she wanted a specific date and time. I told her very frankly that I didn’t have an appointment available on that date and time.
She insisted that I make it happen. I insisted that I couldn’t create an appointment that didn’t exist. She wasn’t happy.
That was the beginning of my training.
Over the years, I have learned a few other things a long the way. Like, how to make sure every caller receives the best care and service! And that I have total control over that. As do you!
