That’s right! My goal here is to see you and your team grow into a whole new stratosphere. One that you have to stretch for. But one that feels so good you want to go even further.
Here We Go:
- Schedule in 10 Minute Increments
- Rotate Chairs & Stagger Appointments
- Create & Update Block Schedules Annually
- Improve Case Presentation & Patient Compliance
Schedule in 10-Minute Increments
Ten minute increments is the first big step to improved efficiency and production. I recently read that practices that schedule in 15-minute increments lose 7 days of production each year. That piece of information alone should convince you of it’s importance.
There isn’t much more I can say about that. You do the math and see just what you lose with a 15-minute increment in your scheduling system. And strongly consider a software update!
Dental Production Schedule Strategies Include Chair Rotation & Appointment Stagger
How many production chairs do you use? Two or three chairs is optimal per dentist. Because we want to schedule major production services in our first chair.
In the second chair, schedule fillings and other non-major services. And if a third chair is available, schedule assistant and non-doctor procedures there.
Build Your Block Schedule Templates
Build your ideal block schedule template. Base your template on facts. What procedures do you schedule? Where do they fit best into your day?
And update your block schedule template each year. As your practice expands, your systems and templates must too. What works for you well today, won’t fit so well next year at this same time.

Improve Case Presentation & Patient Compliance
Now, let’s imagine you’ve got the first steps down. You can check off each box. Practice management software is set-up to schedule in 10-minute increments. Check.
Daily restorative patients are scheduled in rotating fashion in 3 different chairs. That’s working out great. Check.
Perfect day scheduling is in order. Everyone knows what goes where and the day is set up just the way you want it. But where are the patients?
Maybe the financial and treatment presentations are polished. Patients schedule and pay their portion as they schedule. But then reschedule when the day arrives.
Another day would be best. Life is busy, you know!
Patient compliance with your reschedule policy is the final step here. And I’ve got all the tricks you need to communicate this so well, you’ll see a dramatic improvement in patient compliance!
