Dental Office Hygiene Days Benefit All

Dental Office Hygiene Days are days devoted just to hygiene schedules

Dental Office Hygiene Days Boost Production

Dental office hygiene days are also loads of fun!  Because hygiene days offer us a change in our routine.   Are you wondering what a hygiene day is?  It’s a day devoted strictly to hygiene patients.  Every treatment room and team member is dedicated to the cause.  And it’s a great way to boost both hygiene and restorative schedule production!   Not to mention we reduce our call lists and wait time for hygiene appointments too.

Do you have many unscheduled and overdue hygiene patients?  And maybe there are no open appointment times for several weeks.  There is a long call list of patients who are hoping for a sooner appointment time.  And maybe perio patients with no open time for their treatment anytime soon?  Have no fear!   The answer is here.

Design The Day

First, designate the hygiene day.   And just maybe you want one each month or each quarter?   But, let’s start with one.   Select the date on the office calendar.  Next, let’s build the template.   Designate space for periodontal treatment and new patients as well.   Also, consider the exam time for the hygiene templates.  And this is a great team meeting discussion.  Not to mention, a great team building exercise.

Make it fun!   Talk about food with the team.   Nearly everyone feels food equals fun!   What snacks would everyone like during the day?   Then, pack it up!  Bring some fruit, veggies, small sandwiches, or even order some pizza.  But make it a day that team members are excited about.  Because this excitement spills out into patient relationships.  And also into our conversions.  Team members will be excited to bring patients into the schedule on the set hygiene day.

Dental Office Hygiene Days With No Doc

Dental office hygiene days without an exam are possible in some states.  But this varies from state to day.   And I can’t begin to know what individual state laws are.  However, when possible, empty restorative chairs are open hygiene chairs.  Right?   When the doc’s away,  hygiene is the way!   Use treatment rooms for hygiene whenever possible.  Especially if your team is in a larger practice with several providers.  No empty chairs is my motto!  If the office is open to patient care, let’s open it.

What about hygienists?  Recruit the temporary hygienists you need.   Perhaps look for part-time and fill-in hygiene team members.   Advertise and network well.   Dental hygienists know other dental hygienists.   And many hygienists welcome the opportunity to pick up a few hours in a practice they enjoy.   So, it pays to build a practice and the dental office day that others want to be a part of.

Give It a Go

Never scheduled a hygiene day?  Take a look today at your numbers.  Run your unscheduled hygiene patients who are due and overdue.   Look at your schedule to see when the first open appointment time is.  And then take a look at the call list.  What are your new patient numbers like?   Are they growing or dropping off?  All of these numbers combined show you what direction you must go in.
