Dental Front Office Training Mistakes

Dental Front Office Training Mistakes to avoid with better dental front office training systems

Dental Front Office Training Mistake #1 : Little or No Plan

Dental Front Office Training Mistake #1 is the lack of a formal plan.   And it happens.   A new dental office team member joins the pack.  And we hope for the best.  They have some previous experience.  Or not.  But we know everything is okay.  Because we have a fabulous team.  And everyone helps out.

So, what’s the problem?  Especially considering what a fabulous team we have!  This lack of organization does show through.  Especially with new team members.  As business owners we appear detached and uninvolved.

Do We Know What’s Going On?

It’s a valid question.   Without a solid training process for our front desk, do we really know what’s happening?  It’s unlikely.  And may be difficult to admit.  But, let’s take an honest look at the situation.

Let’s create a plan to train our dental front office systems.  And to get our head around them as well.  Because if we aren’t carefully watching what’s going on, we just might lose it all!  Dental office fraud and embezzlement is a reality in our world.

Dental Front Office Training Mistake #2

Now, the other extreme is also a mistake.   Long, boring training sessions are ineffective as well.  A plan that is too rigid and formal just doesn’t work well.  As we have short attention spans.  And lose interest quickly.  Our minds tend to wander.

Plus, a hands-on approach is best!  Allow team members in training opportunity to read a bit.  Perhaps watch a video or review a course unit or two.  And then, plug into putting new skills to use.

Variety is Important

We want our team members to engage in their dental front office training.  Not to feel a sense of dread each day.  But to actually look forward to learning how we do things and what we expect.

Through audio, video, writing, and practice, we learn best.   Short sessions are most effective.   With opportunity to ask questions and discuss new material as well.   So, how do we best accomplish this in our dental practices?

Avoid Dental Front Office Training Mistakes

Plan ahead now!  Even if there appears to be no reason to create a dental front office training program for your practice.  It’s best to put the pieces together when the days are running smooth.  And especially when we have strong dental administrators in place.  Because they know what we need to maintain our practice flow and success.

Refine and define each business system.  Put it in writing and clarify exactly how to do each task within your systems.  Standard operating procedures are critical to good business management.
