Keeping hygiene schedules booked is the focus of this article. As I outline my 3 top tips for maintaining your daily schedules. I make the assumption here that your practice uses a hygiene template. And that your template suits your practice needs.
If you are unsure, take that step first. Create the template your practice needs require. Otherwise, all the tips and the strategies in the universe cannot fix your problem. Your first step is to have an effective template in place.

Need some additional help with your reports and analytics? Let’s sit together and work this through. And let’s create the hygiene templates your patients require.
Please note, this is a task to revisit once a year. As your practice grows and changes, it’s important to adapt. Otherwise, we suffer with symptoms we cannot fix any other way. Now, let’s move on.

Step 1
Communicate your reschedule policy verbally when scheduling every single appointment. It’s our responsibility to train our patients to work within our parameters. Any misunderstandings are our job to correct. Repetition is key.
Write your reschedule policy on all office materials. Things like appointment cards, recall reminder cards, treatment plans, financial agreements, and the practice website.
Keeping Hygiene Schedules Booked Gently
An iron fist isn’t necessary. And often proves to offer the opposite of what we intend. A gentle touch is the best approach for compliance and relationship building.
Communicate with kindness. Make eye contact. Learn the power of body language. Tone. The key element of a pause at just the right time. And how to get your patients’ commitment to your schedule requirements.

Step 2
Create and utilize a strong call list. Know which patients are nearby. Who has a more flexible schedule? And who would like their appointment moved to a different day or time.
Avoid reaching out to patients who do not like change. Get to know your patients and their preferences. Make good notes of this. Both in your head and where other team members have access as well.
Keeping Hygiene Schedules Booked with Technology
Appointments do open short notice. Life just happens sometimes. And our technology moves much faster than we do. So, it’s wise to take advantage of this.
Power up your ability to fill open times with a technology that works well. Offer open appointment times to your wait list. And to overdue and unscheduled hygiene patients!
Step 3
Consistent hygiene reactivation is essential. Consistent input generates consistent outcome. Although, the same is equally true. We do get out of our hygiene schedules the energy we pour into it. Weekly Management fixes this quick!
